TECTONITE VRS CEMENT GENERAL INFORMATION

Tectonite VRS (very rapid set) Cement is a patented (US Patent No. 7,204,880) single-component, inorganic, high performance cement, appropriate for use as an all-season repair and anchoring material. The product adheres to concrete, masonry, metal, asphalt, wood and to itself, without the need of a bonding agent and may be used both inside and outside and in hot and cold temperatures.  Tectonite is known for is high strength and early cure time.

DESIGN FORMULATION
Tectonite VRS Cement is formulated for repair and anchoring work that requires exceptional bonding, adhesion and strength. The product is ideal for jobs where availability of working time for the repair is limited or “down time” must be minimized. It works in warm and cold temperature extremes and will even set up under water. Refer to MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET provided with each shipment. Tectonite VRS Cement is packaged in 60 lb. plastic buckets.

CHARACTERISTICS
Very High Strength – Tectonite VRS achieves in about 30 minutes the compressive strengths attained by ordinary Portland cement in 28 days.
Very Fast Set – Tectonite VRS sets in about 10-15 minutes (at 72° F) from the time of hydration and is traffic-ready in about 30 minutes.
A Tenacious Bond – Tectonite VRS achieves, at a fraction of the cost of complicated epoxy cements, a mechanical bond with materials to which it is applied.

APPLICATION INFORMATION
Tectonite VRS Cement is very fast setting. In hot weather, cool components will retard set time, in cold weather, warm components will accelerate set time. In normal temperatures (70-75° F), allow no more than 10-15 minutes for hydrating, mixing, placing, and finishing. Add only enough water to create a thick, barely pourable, mixture in accordance with the mixing ratios below. Prior to mixing large volumes, mix a cup-sized quantity to get a “feel” for consistency and set time. Store in the plastic bucket with the lid tightly secured. Exposure to moisture and/or high humidity will affect performance and reduce the oneyear shelf life. Area(s) to be repaired must be clean. Remove standing water. For best results, product should not be used for patches less than ¼ “ deep. Saw cut repair area if possible and avoid feathering edges. If applying in multiple layers, allow cement to cool between pours. In warm weather (80-110 F°), cool repair area with cold water; in cold weather (30-45 F°), heat repair area until warm to the touch. No moist cure is required. Air cure and protect from inclement weather until final set.

MIXING RATIOS
Mix six parts cement to one part water (by volume) to produce a mix that is barely pourable. Excess water may weaken the cement’s ultimate strength. Slightly less water may be used for vertical or overhead applications. Add cement to water when mixing, not the other way around. When mixing large quantities, 30-60 lbs., it is recommended a heavy duty, twin shaft mixer be used.

Note: Because Tectonite VRSCement may settle or consolidate in the bucket during shipping and transit, it may be necessary to “fluff” the cement by turning the bucket over several times prior to opening.)
